The Zoryan Institute and AUA Center for Oral History provides free, on-site access to Zoryan Institute's Armenian Genocide Oral History Collection for research, scholarship, and filmmaking purposes.

If you are interested in accessing the collection, please, review the access policies and procedures in the tabs below, and fill the Access Request Form.

Consult the Collection Catalog (see the tabs below) to identify and request the record(s) that you wish to access at the Center.

Who May Access The Oral History Interviews?

As per its mission statement, “The Institute makes its collections and analyses available and provides
research assistance to scholars, writers, journalists, film-makers, government agencies, and other
organizations” to promote awareness of gross violations of Human Rights and Genocide.
The Oral Histories are held in trust by the Zoryan Institute to preserve information. Due to the
sensitive and personal nature of the Oral Histories, access will be granted for authorized research and
educational use only at the Center.

Access Procedures

How to apply and gain access?

Students, scholars, researchers, film/documentary makers, authors, or policymakers who wish to access the Oral History interviews at the Center may follow the following procedures:

  1. Consult the Collection Catalog to identify the interview(s) they wish to access. (Note that you may request access to a maximum of 3 interviews at a time)
  2. Consult the Center's Calendar to identify available time slots during operating hours excluding Official Holidays and University Recess Periods.
  3. Read and acquaint yourself with the Copyright Agreement document.
  4. Fill out and submit the Access Request Form at least 1 day in advance, providing your full name in Latin script as registered in official identification documents and valid contact information. 
  5. Briefly explain your purpose for accessing and using the interview recordings in the request form.
  6. Receive a confirmation email from the AGBU Papazian Library staff and reserve your visiting time slots at the Center.
  7. Come to the Center on the day and time of your confirmed reservation.
  8. Present a formal identification document (Passport or National Identity Card) and sign 2 copies of the Copyright Agreement (one to be archived at the Center). 
  9. Access the selected interviews via the Center's computer(s) and headset(s) for your confirmed appointment length.
Terms of Use

Conditions and Terms of Use:

  • Oral History interviews must be consulted on the premises and are not available for lending.
  • The Center is not authorized to provide copies of the interviews.
  • Only bottled water is allowed at the Center. Eating or drinking in the Center is prohibited.
  • Recording or taking snapshots of the interviews using phones, cameras, or any recording device is prohibited.
  • Permission to publish an Oral History interview, in any medium or format, in whole or in part, is
    limited by the terms of the Copyright Agreement, which must be signed by both the person requesting
    a copy of the Oral History interview and a witness, who may be any authorized employee at the Center.
Copyright Agreement

Please, note that you will fill and sign 2  paper copies of the Zoryan Institute Oral History Copyright Agreement at the Center, one of which will be archived in the Center, and the second copy is for you to keep.

Consult the Center's Calendar to identify available time slots to visit the Center for accessing your selected interview(s).

Note that you can reserve available slots Monday - Friday from 9:30 am until 5:30 pm. The Center closes on official Holidays and University Recess Periods. See the Center's Calendar below to identify available time slots. 

 

 

Access Request Form

To visit the Center and access Oral History recordings, you need to reserve your visit date(s) and time(s) and specify the interviews you wish to access at least 1 day in advance

We suggest the following formats to cite the Oral History interviews:

APA Style:

Interviewee Last Name, First Initial. Middle Initial. (Interview year, Month day). Interview title/code. Interview by First Initial. Middle Initial. Last Name. Interview Collection or Project Name [The Armenian Genocide Oral History Collection]. Publisher [Zoryan Institute]. 

MLA Style:
